About Artist
Natalia Joubrina is a London-based contemporary painter who divides her time between the UK and Lake Como. Since beginning her artistic practice in 2020, she has developed an independent visual language through self-directed study, working primarily in oil. Her practice has grown alongside an established career in international finance, a dual perspective that brings structural precision to her exploration of psychological boundaries and dualities.
Her quiet, atmospheric paintings bring figures, ordinary objects and architectural spaces into unexpected relationships. Familiar scenes acquire an elusive quality, inviting closer attention. Their narratives remain unresolved, leaving room for the viewer’s own experiences and memories.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Artist Statement
My paintings begin with an image or an idea that feels familiar but cannot be fully explained. I am drawn to the moment when recognition gives way to uncertainty, when something we thought we understood opens into another possibility.
My work is shaped by philosophical and psychological questions: how memory forms identity, how perception shapes what we believe, and how our lives unfold between the choices we make and the forces we cannot always see. Time and free will recur throughout these explorations.
Ordinary objects take on unfamiliar roles, gathering associations that shift with the person looking. Their symbolic possibilities remain open. I leave something unresolved in each painting, allowing the viewer’s own experience to enter the work. For me, painting creates a space in which several possibilities can exist at once.
